For my final art project, I plan to use VDMX or Resolume in combination with MadMapper to create a dynamic VJ projection installation. My idea is to project onto charged objects which carry more personal, cultural and political significance. Some of the key objects I intend to use include my flak jacket, my military uniform, an American flag, and some select paintings of war. These items are not just physical surfaces but symbols of identity, nationalism and service which often have unspoken tension between duty and disillusionment of authority.
The visual content will consist of looping GIFs that portray riots, political unrest, and scenes that reflect governmental failure or societal breakdown. By projecting these moments of chaos and dissent onto items typically associated with order, service, and patriotism, I aim to create a visual contradiction that invites reflection. The contrast between the stillness of the objects and the violent motion of the GIFs will amplify the emotional weight and challenge the viewer to consider the complexities of loyalty, trauma, and their belief systems.
This project is about confrontation for me. Between imagery and objects, the viewer can hopefully reflect on the ways media and memory intersect - especially for those who have lived through institutions that claim to protect but often betray. By manipulating light, movement, and symbolism, I hope to create an immersive experience that is both unsettling and honest, forcing viewers to question not only what they see, but what they believe and feel.
