Artist Statement:

My projection mapping project explores the current state of political distress in the United States through the lens of lies, and secrecy within the government. I chose a combination of charged objects for my assignment like an American flag, empty magazines and shells, a military cover, and top secret documents to help convey my theme.

I used a spray paint bottle taped with white paper to the wall, allowing it to exist as both an object and a canvas. Fire is projected onto the bottle and the spray paint itself is used as a flamethrower which is historically associated with protest and rebellion. The idea behind this was to allow my objects to become a metaphor for the release of collective frustration and demand for change.

Through projection mapping, data moshing, pixel sorting and data bending I aimed to create an energetic and chaotic visual narrative. The charged objects are drawn from protest, political narratives, and emotional responses that representing the many voices that attempt to break through moments of silence or suppression.

This project allowed me to expand my use of digital tools to extend the object’s physicality, creating a tension between the tangible and the intangible. By animating around an everyday items associated with public expression, I aim to emphasize how ordinary objects can become vessels of political energy. Ultimately, my work asks viewers to consider not only what is being expressed, but how, where, and why certain voices are amplified or silenced in moments of crisis. This project pushed me to experiment and capture the urgency, disorder embedded in our current political landscape. Thanks for reading!
