Artist Statement:
"October has always been a month of inspiration for my wife and I, with its crisp cold air and the excitement that surrounds the months holiday, Halloween. There’s something uniquely thrilling about the atmosphere of the season, with its blend of mystery, fear, haunted houses and nostalgia. For this project, I wanted to channel that feeling into an immersive audio experience that captures the tension of being in a haunted cellar. In crafting the soundscape, I used a variety of sound effects and techniques to build an unsettling auditory environment. The primary effects of echoes and reverb evoke the vast emptiness of the incriminatory space. while layered, overlapping sounds mimic the faint, disorienting noises that seem to creep out of the dark corners of the cellar.
Creating this piece was an exploration of how sound alone can easily be manipulated to allow the listener to conjure up their o
wn visions of what might be lurking just out of sight. It’s not just about the fear I tried to instill, but about the sense of wonder and curiosity that comes with exploring the unknown. By manipulating the acoustic space and textures, I was trying to create the unease of being somewhere haunted—not only by spirits but by memories, emotions, and the things we cannot see as easily in this physical world."
